A conference is a sourcing problem wearing a schedule

Most of the work of running a large event happens months before anyone arrives, and almost all of it is finding and qualifying people: who should speak, whether they are relevant to this audience, whether they are available, and whether they will actually deliver. Traditionally this is a team working through spreadsheets and inboxes, and it scales linearly with the number of people they can personally contact.
