The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Industry

AI & Industrial Applications

About this publication

Panorama publishes an analytical article on the prospects of artificial intelligence technology in industrial applications. The piece covers AI-driven manufacturing optimization, predictive maintenance, quality control automation, and the transformation of traditional industrial processes.

Dmitry Kotov's role

Dmitry Kotov contributes expert perspective on industrial AI adoption, drawing from his experience building automation systems to explain how factories and production facilities can leverage machine learning for operational excellence.

Background

Panor publishes professional and trade journals for Russian industry, read by engineers and plant management rather than a technology audience. The bar in that setting is unusually practical: a claim has to survive people who will be responsible for the equipment.

Industrial AI has one dependable application and a great deal of noise around it. Predictive maintenance — inferring an impending failure from vibration, temperature, and current signatures before it happens — is a genuine solved problem with a calculable return, because unplanned downtime has a known hourly cost. Most of the rest depends on data that plants do not have in usable form: unlabelled, inconsistently sampled, and split across systems that were never intended to be read together. The constraint is instrumentation, not modelling.
